Role Overview

The Engineering Project Manager is responsible for planning, organizing and directing engineering team to meet company objectives for design, new product development and improvement of existing product lines. This position reports directly to the Director of Operations. 


  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited institution required, Structural Engineering preferred

  • 2+ years of management experience within a manufacturing environment

  • 3+ years’ experience in CAD design, preferably Solidworks or AutoCAD Inventor

  • Skilled in product design and engineering

  • Experience working in an ERP environment

  • Minimum of two years’ experience working in a new product development system and a track record of designing products on-time, and on-cost

  • Experience in Product Data Management systems

  • Ability to work hands-on to support and lead projects and programs

  • Microsoft office Suite

  • Experience working in a design environment governed by ISO 9001:2008

  • Must be able to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team environment and demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Some travel may be required to customers (<15%)


  • Manages and directs product and R&D engineering processes

  • Develops, determines and implements policies, procedures and programs across engineering department

  • Selects, develops, trains and supervises associates within department

  • Originate and work with product marketing to create ideas for product and component features, modifications, and new products

  • Contribute to the value of product designs by helping identify customer needs, and by applying up-to-date design solutions, techniques, approaches, methods, and technology

  • Selects correct design concepts and fundamental technology used for new products or improvement to existing ones

  • Resolve technical product and design issues as they occur

  • Create and maintain testing procedures and specifications for all Western Shelter products

  • Prepare and/or manage engineering drawings using CAD program

  • Analyze existing product for cost savings opportunities and implement those changes

  • Determine operations required to manufacture products and develop processes to ensure quality, cost, and efficiency requirements are me

  • Prepares presentations for program and design reviews

  • Oversees key projects, processes and performance reports, data and analysis

  • Plans and manages documentation control system

  • Maintain dependable and accurate Bill of Material (BOM) process

  • Maintain state-of-the-art awareness of relevant product technologies

  • Produce and support the creation of service literature such as product manuals, product specification/Data Sheets, and other technical reference materials

  • Prepare drawings and documentation needed to define or update product design

  • Document production processes and create standard work instructions

  • Supplies appropriate support for Manufacturing and Quality functions within the organization

  • Helps develop and implement methods and procedures for monitoring projects such as preparation of expenditure records and progress reports to inform management of current status of each project
