Mechanical Project Engineer

Role Overview

The Mechanical Project Engineer applies engineering fundamentals to practical problem solving involving the design, fabrication, and manufacture of shelter systems and integrated components with a focus on existing product development, customer needs, and cost reduction activities. Effectively creates, plans, organizes, and leads engineering assignments to meet business objectives on multiple projects.


  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution required
  • 3+ years’ experience in CAD design, preferably Solidworks or AutoCAD Inventor
  • Experience working in an ERP environment
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working in a new product development system and a track record of designing products on-time, and on-cost
  • Experience in Product Data Management systems
  • Ability to work hands-on to support and lead projects and programs
  • Microsoft office Suite
  • Experience working in a design environment governed by ISO 9001:2008
  • Must be able to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team environment and demonstrate good written and oral communication skills.
  • Some travel may be required to customers (<15%)


  • Originate and work with product marketing to create ideas for product and component features, modifications , and new products
  • During course of product change activities, establish update, and maintain product specifications, including meaningful details pertinent to product requirements, regulatory considerations, and marketing/sales considerations
  • Develops detailed costed BOMs for Shelter Systems and components such as; water heaters, ECU, generators, power distribution, wiring harnesses, water treatment systems, and water bladders
  • Coordinate and plan interdisciplinary activities, and project timetables for customer driven requirements, and new product development programs
  • Analyze existing product for cost savings opportunities and implement those changes
  • Create and maintain product test plans
  • Prepares presentations for program and design reviews
  • Create, maintain, and provide input for engineering documentation such as Bill of Materials (BOMs), production routings, and engineering change orders (ECO)
  • Maintain state-of-the-art awareness of relevant product technologies
  • Produce and support the creation of service literature such as product manuals, product specification/Data Sheets, and other technical reference materials
  • Prepare drawings and documentation needed to define or update product design
  • Possess the ability to understand problems and resolve those problems and communicate effectively
  • Verify completeness and accuracy of drawings
  • Document production processes and create standard work instructions
